Honeymoon Diary #5: Day at the Museum

A must-do in New York is to visit all the lovely museums she has, and we visited a grand total of 3: American Museum of Natural History, the Met and MoMA. And boy was it exhausting! This post is solely dedicated to AMNH 🙂

AMNH has damn a lot of exhibits and practically covers anything and everything you need to know about our world (and beyond). It’s an excellent place for kids (and of course, adults) to learn and just spend days exploring. When Baby J is older I’ll be sure to bring him there 🙂

Warning: super overload of pictures ahead.

On 1 December 2010, we made our way to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the icon of New York City. It was POURING cats and dogs when we set off, but we were determined to visit Liberty Island.

A gloomy day to visit Liberty

They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway / They say there’s always magic in the air

I have been waiting for 29th November 2010 to come ever since I heard Jay-Z and Alicia Keys sing, and I absolutely LOVE NEW YORK CITY.

After surviving an 11-hour Greyhound ride from Toronto to New York, we finally reached my friend’s apartment where we would be staying for the next 4 nights! Woohoo! I know it’s not enough to thoroughly enjoy the whole city, but time was not on our side, so we tried to make do with whatever time we had.

Honeymoon Diary #2: Niagara-fied

In case you’re wondering why there aren’t pictures, that’s because I’m too lazy to upload them now. Haha. So… words shall try to say the least first 🙂

Today, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise, which meant that it would be a great day visiting the Niagara Falls! But first, we had a peameal bacon on a bun for breakfast at St Lawrence Market, which was basically great pork tenderloin in a bun. St Lawrence Market is really cool; having divided into North and South markets (like the Koreas), the variety of food and fresh produce is amazing. I guess it’s really wonderful to see how much pride the Canadians (or Westerners in general I suppose) take in making sure that they have enough fresh, good-looking food around. They made everything look so delicious!

St Lawrence Market – North Market, with a peameal bacon on a bun!

Lots of interesting health food and meat stuff in the North market

South Market – full of veggies and fruit stuff. Check out the STACK of  broccoli and squashes!

Thereafter, my senior drove us all the way to Niagara Falls, a good one and a half hour plus drive away, and… well, it was spectacular and all that I suppose. Nothing too breathtaking because it was very misty and half the time the winds were so gusty we were busy walking rather than taking photos. Nonetheless I am still amazed at how Mother Nature can create such a beautiful specimen… so much water flowing day in day out. We then spent some time exploring the area, and it was nice just… sightseeing at a leisurely pace.

The beautiful Niagara Falls

Great weather today, with the sun out most of the time, and it snowed a little back in Toronto when we were at Niagara Falls.

It’s been a lovely trip so far, and I’m sad to leave Toronto tomorrow as it has been great catching up with my seniors 😦 nonetheless, this only means that we’ll be having more fun in NYC very soon!!!

We are currently now at Toronto, Canada, at my seniors’ apartment, and we are still suffering from jetlag. Hubba is sleeping now and I’m keeping myself awake so that I would sleep well later.

The beautiful view from my seniors’ apartment, and our bed for the next two nights

The past 2 days have been crazy for us, as we left Singapore on 24th night to land in New York on 25th morning. It had been a 22-hour flight from Singapore to Frankfurt to New York, and then another 11-hour bus ride from New York to Toronto to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with my seniors.

And so, we start with a short encounter in the concrete jungle where dreams were made of: New York City.

Amazing Australia – The Great Ocean Road & Robe

(Previous instalments: Sydney, Blue Mountains, Canberra, Lakes Entrance & Phillip Island)

The Great Ocean Road is a must-go when you’re in Victoria, and we spent two full days touring it. Thing is, this was also the saddest time during our tour as it rained like mad while we were touring it. We heard over the radio one day after we were done with the Road that we had the heaviest downpour in God-knows-how-long in Victoria. Man!

Nonetheless, we were sooooo excited to see geography at work 🙂

We started our journey nice and bright…

Entering the Great Ocean Road via Torquay all the way to Port Campbell!
